Thank you for your interest in the José Valdés Summer Math Institute. By taking Math Institute classes, students are working for mathematical excellence, experiencing success in other academic subjects, being on-line for college entrance, and improving self-esteem. The program requires the following:
Students must commit themselves to perfect attendance, intense classroom work, homework, and self-discipline. Parents/Guardians of participating students must commit themselves to attend at least one parent summer meeting, must encourage their children to work hard on all homework and class work, and must ensure excellent attendance and behavior.
For Summer 2012, the Valdés Summer Math Institute will be in session from Wednesday, June 13 through Wednesday, August 1.
Your child can apply for the program by simply completing the application. The program is for students who are currently enrolled in the 5th through 11th grades. The Valdés Math Foundation will be sponsoring basic math classes for as many students as possible. There is no charge to apply for the program. There will be a $200 registration fee for all students who are accepted into the program. Students eligible to enroll in Introduction to Algebra or higher will have an additional $800 fee. Please check the website if you have questions or wish to email us.
Please fill out the application only if you are sure of commitment to the Institute. If your family has never had a child complete the program, you should attend one of our parent informational sessions (specific dates will be posted on our calendar).
During the past years, there were many more students anxious to attend our Institute than we were able to serve, so once again, please make sure of your commitment to the project before you fill out your application. The facilities available also limit us. The project will accept as many eligible students as possible (placement eligibility based on test results). We will be selecting students according to their math needs, and students will only be considered after they have taken the math placement test (times and locations posted on our calendar).
